Project manager of Namibia’s Homeless World Cup team, Bethuel Uirab, says the country has been invited to participate in the 2026 Homeless World Cup set to take place in Mexico City.
Uirab confirmed this in an interview with Confidente, while providing an update on the country’s future participation in the global street football tournament and related community programmes planned for the year.
“We are planning to host a street soccer tournament and also another unpopular event, Football vs Homophobia,” said Uirab.
“We have been invited to take part in the Homeless World Cup 2026 in Mexico City either in October or November. The date still has to be confirmed,” he added.
The Homeless World Cup is an international street football tournament aimed at supporting and empowering people experiencing homelessness or social exclusion.
Uirab said the initiative is designed to build self-esteem and confidence among participants, helping them to better face and overcome social challenges.
“The main target is to give participants self-esteem and confidence to face and overcome
their social challenges.”
He further noted that the programme also includes ongoing community outreach activities such as a weekly soup kitchen held every Sunday, as well as counselling services for women and children affected by gender-based violence.
“We are busy with different programmes like a soup kitchen every Sunday and counselling of women and children who are victims of GBV. There is a lot going on which normally does not make it to mainstream media,” he said.
