The Burna Boy show ascertained

By Rosalia David

EVENTS director at Mindscape Events, Gordon Jay has assured local music lovers that the African Giant and “On the low’ hit maker Burna Boy will indeed be performing in Namibia on 4 April.

This comes after Mindscape Events announced that the roaringly successful singer Burna Boy is coming to perform in Namibia as part of his African Giant tour, which has left many fans questioning the credibility of the announcement.

Following the announcement, local fans took to social media demanding confirmation by the artist himself as to whether he is really coming or not to secure their coins.

“We fully understand the sentiments expressed in some quarters, especially since a few Namibian events didn’t happen in the past. We are a credible company partnering with another credible brand in the name of Play Network Africa. Burna is very overwhelmed and respective about the love he’s getting so far from Namibia and I can assure the event is 100 percent happening,” Jay noted.

With some Namibian event organisers having a history of making false promises to attract people to their events, Jay had to point out that the multi award winner is indeed excited and looking forward to entertain the ‘Land of the brave’.

Despite a few who raised eyebrows after the announcement was made, Jay said the feedback, calls, messages and impressions on social media have been humbling.

“We are not getting ahead of ourselves or taking it for granted. At one point the Africa Giant Tour in Namibia was the Number One trending topic on Twitter in Namibia and parts of Southern Africa. It goes to show there is a very healthy appetite for this show in Namibia…, which can only be a positive economically for the country,” he said.

Although the date of the event has been announced already, the venue could not be confirmed as the team is supposedly still trying to get that perfect spot.

“We are really excited about the concert happening in Windhoek and are confident it will be a good show. As you can imagine, since the initial ‘’Save the Date’’ announcement the response from Burna’s fans in Namibia and Southern Africa at large has been immensely positive, so it’s important we get the venue right. We are on the verge of making a second announcement that will include further information on the venue and ticketing, so watch this space,” he explained.

He added that, Namibians should expect nothing but loads of great energy, togetherness, and a celebration of the vast array of talent Namibia has to offer. “From all the artists on the day we will see a mixture of charisma, magnetic aura, non-stop singing, dancing, artistry, top class entertainment and a fun filled experience.”

Some of the local artists expected to perform at the Burna Boy show are Gazza, King Tee Dee, KP Illest, Lioness, Top Cheri, PDK. He added that, the team will still be adding many more other Namibian acts to the lineup in due course.

“We will also be running a mini competition soon, to give at least 2-4 other upcoming Namibian talent an opportunity to shine,” Jay said.

Questioned on how much the tickets might be going for, Jay mentioned that the tickets will be priced accordingly to make sure that they are affordable. “We want everyone to have a great time on the day, which means making tickets easily affordable, accessible and attractive. For an event of this magnitude, in Namibia we will be introducing some attractive early bird pricing incentives. Our main goal is to make sure we give Namibians an amazing show, full of value for money.”

Mindscape Events previously organized a successful African Music and Arts Festival, which saw many flock to Zoo Park in Windhoek in 2017 to witness Zimbabwean hitmaker Winky D perform.

Burna Boy rose to stardom in 2012 after releasing 'Like to Party', the lead single from his debut studio album 'L.I.F.E'. In 2017, Burna Boy signed with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally. In 2019, he won the Best International Act award at the 2019 BET Awards. His fourth studio album 'African Giant' was released in July 2019.

The self-proclaimed ‘African Giant’ endeared himself to Namibian fans late last year when he traded his Nigerian flag for a Namibian one after spotting it in the crowd during a performance in Zurich, Switzerland.
