Lioness to release album this month

By Rosalia David

FEMALE Hip hop artist La-Toya Mwoombola, better known as Lioness, who has broken into the male dominated genre over the years, will soon be releasing her second album titled ‘Wish You Were Here’.

The 10-track album set for release on 8 May is currently available for pre-orders and features local and international musicians. “The main theme of the album is love. In ‘Wish You Were Here’ I basically explain common experiences that I had in the past and recent relationships,” she said.

She worked with an artist from Nigeria, Ogranya and several other talented musicians from Ghana, such as J Derobie, Waters, Space and David.

Asked how long it took her to finally complete the album, she mentioned that she had to perfect her work for an entire year as she was struggling to balance the demands of being a doctor and a rapper at the same time.

“The greatest challenge was time, I really had to be strict with my hours at the hospital to be able to make some time for my music as well,” she explained.

With the aim of releasing the best quality album, she said worked with producers such as ‘William Must Be Controlled,’ Simba Tagz, Darlington from Zimbabwe, Synx from Nigeria, Dj Kboz, Chris Wayne and Brown Klaxon.

Although she described the songs on the album as “good songs”, she said that her soon-to-be-released single titled ‘Wish You Were Here’ is her favorite track on the project. “Wish You Were Here’ here is definitely my favourite. It is my favourite video as well and I think it was one of the first songs on the album.”

The song is about a significant other who is terribly missed and about whom she thinks of all the time. “We are withholding a lot of details, so it is a part of the surprise and I am so open to all reactions. I just hope music lovers appreciate the art.”

She went on to say her second album explores a new sound and focuses more on Afro sounds as well as R&B. On the ‘Wish You Were Here’ album she also features Namibian musicians such as musical group Cool Under Pressure. “I also worked with an artist from Ghana with whom I was in Mr Eazi’s Empawa Top 10 camp,” she added.
