Goreangab development sheds light

Two local companies, Oryx Properties Limited and Safland Property Group are set to bring development in Goreangab Informal settlements in Windhoek. This was announced recently, and includes the development of a multi-million dollar complex, which comprises of retailer shops such as Shoprite and many others, to a total of N$ 270 million.
The most ambitious retailer shop is set to open its doors in Goreangab earlier in May next year with 82 percent of the retail space already secured and Shoprite confirmed as the anchor tenant. The new development will see an amount of about N$270 million invested by the two private entities.
“The construction of the mall is said to be the symbol of what is possible when the private sector pulls together to invest meaningfully in underserved communities," noted Ben Jooste, Oryx Properties chief executive officer. He further, said that small represent a commitment to the economic empowerment, community upliftment and to inclusive growth.
The development is believed to create about 700 jobs in total; whereby 340 jobs is meant for construction while 360 jobs is set to be permanent positions once fully operational. According to the announcement, the main contractor, Andeo Construction who broke the construction ground on 3rd February 2025 has made a significant progress by covering already 95 percentage of concrete work including pouring concrete close to 7600 cubic metre and installed approximately 490 tons reinforced steel.
The project utilized about 250,000 labour hours and the team is 7-8 working days behind schedule as a result of the wet rainy season. Kallie Van De Merwe of Safland highlighted how the transformative is of significant impact, noting that the shopping center is a heartbeat of the Goreagab. About 300 jobs will be created meaning it will cut transport cost to town.
