FNB,NFA in discussion over WSL sponsorship
By Michael Uugwanga
FIRST National Bank (FNB) Namibia and the Namibia Football Association (NFA) are currently at the table negotiating a new sponsorship deal from towards the Women Super League (WSL). This was confirmed by Petelina Frans, FNB’s spokesperson to Confidente this week.
Once the two parties manage to agree on the deal, FNB will once again become the total sponsor for the country’s top-flight women football league, following the conclusion of a three-year deal that ended during the last WSL season in June 2025.
In 2023, FNB and the NFA signed a sponsorship agreement worth N$7.5 million, with the aim of giving a girl child a chance to showcase her talent on show.
It is no secret that the FNB WSL matches have always attracted lots of spectators and because of this sponsorship, the league has grown and is currently one of Africa’s well-funded women’s leagues.
Confidente is reliably informed that FNB has already agreed to sponsor the WSL, but it is not yet clear how long the deal and the amount pledged for the league.
“[We] cannot confirm any [further] details at this stage. We will however make an official announcement once a conclusion has been reached and ensure that you are included in the communications once we do,” said Frans.
“FNB Namibia has a long-standing history of investing Namibian sports. Across the FirstRand Namibia Group, we have invested over N$26 million in the past three years towards various sporting initiatives, with N$7.5 million going directly into the development of football,” she explained.
“As women’s football continues to take centre stage, we remain committed in our support of the WSL, ensuring that all Namibian athletes are represented equally and have the opportunity to shine on both local and international stages.”
FNB has over the years sponsored various sports, including horse racing, rugby and cricket.
