From her curious fascination with numbers during her teens, to living her everyday dream as one of Namibia’s women who are playing and contributing to the country’s financial growth, Arvashni Gorases embodies a journey of resilience, dedication and profound commitment in empowering others.

Her financial path which began as a temporary employee in 2020, has blossomed into a career marked by significant contribution and a passion for financial wellbeing. “From my teen years, I was drawn to numbers and problem-solving. Over time, this interest developed into a deeper passion for helping people navigate financial challenges,” Gorases shared.
This initial curiosity developed into a clearer and deeper passion to assist clients in overcoming financial difficulties and achieving their goals. That impact continues to inspire her growth in the industry.

While banking has historically been perceived as a male-dominated field, Gorases emphasized that there is a transformative transition currently underway. “We have witnessed a significant shift and today many strong and capable women are leading in this industry,” she noted.
For Gorases, rising above any underestimation has always stemmed from a fundamental belief in her own value and the power of her work.

“I personally have not allowed perceptions to define my contribution. I focus on doing the work, building expertise and letting my results speak for themselves. Rising above underestimation starts with believing in your value and proving it through your work,” she stated, highlighting a pragmatic approach to professional advancement.
Confidence, in Gorases’ view, is an essential cornerstone in her role of managing people's finances and making critical decisions.
"Confidence is being grounded in who you are and knowing your values, standing by your decisions, yet being open to learning," she explained.

In her daily responsibilities, this translates to showing up prepared, leading with purpose and possessing an unwavering belief in her capability to handle the significant responsibilities entrusted to her.
Her leadership style has been significantly shaped by the challenge of earning trust without formal authority. In non-permanent roles and when leading peers, she learned the importance of inspiring through respect, vision and a shared sense of purpose, rather than relying on positional power.
"This experience helped me develop a transformational leadership approach," Gorases reiterated. This style is now central to her management philosophy.

She encourages individuals to grow, take ownership and tackle challenges with purpose and confidence, fostering a positive work environment where empowerment and engagement thrive.
"I believe in leading with purpose, supporting continuous development, and creating an environment where teams can thrive and deliver meaningful results.”

Balancing the intense professional pressure of the banking industry with personal life is a continuous learning curve for Gorases.
She acknowledged that there are times when work demands more and she has learned the importance of recognizing when things feel overwhelming. Her strategy involves creating space for herself and her family, even if it is just small moments throughout the day, and most importantly, practicing self-kindness when juggling multiple roles.

“In a fast-paced industry such as banking, there are times when work takes more from you, and I have learned that it is okay to acknowledge when things feel overwhelming. I try to create space for myself and my family, even if it is small moments during the day. I also believe in being kind to yourself, especially when juggling multiple roles.”

With gratitude, Gorases credited significant mentors in her career who saw potential in her, saying: “I have been fortunate to work under leaders who saw potential in me before I saw it in myself. Their guidance, constructive feedback and trust in my ability gave me the courage to stretch beyond my comfort zone.”

Gorases maintained: “These mentors did not just teach me about banking, but they taught me about professionalism, resilience and the importance of lifting others as you grow.”

For young women aspiring to enter the finance or banking sector, Gorases offered advised: "Do not doubt your voice or your value. The finance sector needs those young women who are ready to bring fresh ideas and a strong work ethic."
She encouraged young women and girls to embrace every learning opportunity, not to let pressure diminish their optimism, and to approach their work with unwavering dedication and integrity.

"Although it may not always appear that others notice your hard work, rest assured that your efforts are recognized and valued."
She continues to actively use her platform to empower others, particularly women and youth in Namibia. Her approach to empowerment begins with her daily interactions, where she encourages colleagues, especially young women, to speak up, take initiative and believe in their potential.

Outside of work, she shares knowledge and advice with peers and younger individuals interested in banking or business. Furthermore, she actively utilizes her platforms to promote crucial financial literacy and awareness, contributing to a more financially informed community.
