THE Namibia Handball Federation (NHF) is set to host its third national regional tournament in Swakopmund, Erongo Region, from 10 to 13 September. The tournament will also serve as ideal preparations for the Namibia’s participation in the 2026 International Handball Championship that will be held in Lesotho.

NHF president Issy Nakamwe, believes the tournament will help strengthen regional federations in developing teams, coaches and referees. In the past few months, NHF in corporation with the International Handball Federation and the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), have seen coaches and referees attaining qualifications.

Handball in Namibia only received its accreditation from the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) in 2021 and today it has found itself as one of the fastest growing sport codes in the country. “Beyond fostering growth at the regional level, the tournament will play a critical role in identifying and selecting top-tier players for Namibia’s national team,” said Nakamwe.

“With handball steadily gaining momentum in Namibia, the NHF’s continued commitment to the sport has opened doors for emerging talent and enhanced the country’s presence on the international stage,” he added.   “Organizers encourage spectators to support their local teams and witness the high level of competition that promises to unfold over the four-day event.”
