One of the country’s top female tennis players, Joavinia Bezuidenhout, is appealing to the general public for assistance in acquiring a new racket, which costs N$5,000, to enable her to continue playing tennis.
Bezuidenhout (15) is undoubtedly one of the leading tennis players in the country, having represented Namibia at international level, notably at the Billie Jean King Cup in Kenya.

Two promising Namibian sprinters, Brendan Kanchana and Engelhardt Gariseb, have qualified for the prestigious Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, USA, from June 19 to 21. This event, a pinnacle of youth track and field competition, attracts nearly 5,000 athletes vying for national championships and potential World Championship berths.
Despite qualifying, both athletes are seeking financial assistance from corporate sponsors or individuals to fund their trip.

Those familiar with the local sports scene know Lukas Hashiti’s prowess as a goalkeeper in the Namibian Premier League (now the Debmarine Premiership), where he played for Civics, Ramblers, and UNAM FC. Though at Civics, he primarily served as backup to Denzil Bruwer.
His role as principal of Jan Möhr Secondary School in Windhoek since 2019 has not diminished Hashiti’s passion for football. Currently, he serves as the goalkeeper coach at Bucks Buccaneers in the Debmarine Premiership, a commitment he maintains as a side venture.

Go-karting, often perceived as a male-dominated sport, is being redefined by Nikita Thieme, Namibia’s leading female go-karter. The 17-year-old is challenging stereotypes and making her mark on the track.
Thieme stands out as the sole female competitor in the Go-Karting Direct Drive (DD) 2 category, typically dominated by male drivers. This hasn’t hindered her success; she consistently wins races and championships.

Only one goal separates the top three contenders for the coveted FNB Women Super League (WSL) Golden Boot award as this season is heading towards an exciting climax. 
Beauties FC striker Fiola ‘Halaand’ Vliete leads with 14 goals, followed closely by FC Ongos midfielder Memory Ngonda and Khomas NamPol’s goal-shooter Shange Tomas, both with 13 goals.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA), Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), and the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy have all lost their patrons, Dr. Hage Geingob and founding President Sam Nujoma.
Geingob, who passed away last February, was the patron of both the NFA and NRU, while founding President Nujoma, who passed away last month, was the patron of MTC Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy.
Their deaths leave the three institutions without patrons, requiring them to seek new patrons.

Namibian long-distance runner, Alina Armas has called for the increase of the Rössing Marathon’s prize money.
The 43-year-old Olympian said this after she won the women’s 42.2km marathon at Swakopmund, in a time of 02:45:32, with Beata Naigambo (03:03:23) and Risa Dreyer (03:23:06) finishing second and third, respectively.
“I want to tell the management of Rössing Uranium that they must adjust the payment please. I want them to improve the prize money for the top eight positions,” said Armas.

Renowned young handball umpire, Prince Velikoshi, is among the fortunate individuals worldwide selected to attend the 65th International Session for Young Olympic Ambassadors (YOA) in Athens, Greece, from June 7th to 19th this year.

The Namibia Handball Federation (NHF) announced his selection last week.

Velikoshi, 19, the youngest certified/qualified handball umpire, having attained an NHF D-coaching license certificate last year, is highly regarded by the federation for his hard work and dedication to the sport.

For generations, Namibian communities have relied on the healing properties of Pechuël-Loeschea leubnitzia, commonly known as Bitter Bush (Ezimba), to treat various ailments. Now, a young Namibian researcher is on a mission to scientifically validate its medicinal potential and bring traditional knowledge into modern healthcare.

Pechuël-loeschea, is a monotypic genus of African plants in the elecampane tribe within the sunflower family, and named after the German plant collector and geographer Eduard Pechuël-Loeschea.

This past weekend, the real stars were the giggling, gurgling, and utterly adorable babies who stole hearts at the 3rd Annual Baby Expo. Held at the scenic Droombos Estate, the event transformed into a wonderland of pint-sized charm, with its highlight being the Facebook Baby Photo Competition, which showcased 92 of Namibia’s most photogenic tots.
