Namibian Student Bridges Tradition and Science

For generations, Namibian communities have relied on the healing properties of Pechuël-Loeschea leubnitzia, commonly known as Bitter Bush (Ezimba), to treat various ailments. Now, a young Namibian researcher is on a mission to scientifically validate its medicinal potential and bring traditional knowledge into modern healthcare.

Pechuël-loeschea, is a monotypic genus of African plants in the elecampane tribe within the sunflower family, and named after the German plant collector and geographer Eduard Pechuël-Loeschea.

As a content strategist, creative director, and filmmaker, Othilia “Tutu” Mungoba’s collaboration with Windhoek Physiotherapy began with a shared vision intended to spotlight the Arrows Ladies Football Club, a team the physiotherapy practice financially supports and advises.
After immersing herself in the players’ world, she started attending training sessions, social gatherings, and initiating one-on-one discussions before casting five leading roles for a documentary. What began as a client-vendor relationship, soon evolved into a joint production venture.

My readings of Namibia’s history of the indigenes exposed me to the at best cordial relations between the Nama and Ovaherero long before I met Pastoor Hendrik Witbooi. His Great Grandfather !Nanseb, that Namibian revolutionary par excellence, had his tussles with Ovaherero and he had remained the most respected of all the Nama warriors by Ovaherero.

 

N$412,000 for Bank Windhoek School Feeding Scheme

Bank Windhoek this week handed over funds amounting to N$412,000 to the Imago Dei Welfare and Poverty Relief project at Rocky Crest Primary School in Windhoek. This marks the third consecutive year that the two entities have collaborated on this school feeding initiative.

The Namibian government has assured communities at risk of water flooding that it is fully prepared to offer both financial and logistical assistance, should the need arise. 
I-Ben Nashandi, Executive Director in the Office of the Prime Minister, confirmed the government’s readiness in an interview with Confidente on Thursday.
He, however, did not reveal the specific fund targeted for this particular development.

As the countdown towards the end of President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba’s term as Head of State begins, analysts suggest that his administration will be remembered for its steady approach to governance and laid-back demeanour.
Political analyst Natji Tjirera notes that Mbumba, despite his rather enigmatic persona, assumed leadership following the passing of the country’s most flamboyant and well-loved president. As such, Tjirera asserts, Mbumba faced the challenge of filling very big shoes in the public domain while also steering the Namibian ship forward.
