Namibia’s multitalented songstress and disability advocate, Alvarita Benedito Lucungo, known as Alvara, has taken her talent and advocacy for persons with disability to Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.  She is representing Namibia at the Inclusive Africa Conference, taking place from 3 to 5 June 2025.

Born with congenital glaucoma and a visual impairment, Alvara has risen above limitations, becoming a powerful figure in both the local music industry and disability rights activism.  She is popularly known for her soulful blend of R&B, Afropop, and emotional storytelling in her quest to redefine what it means to be an inclusive artist in Africa’s creative space.

This year’s conference, hosted by inABLE Africa, celebrates innovation, accessibility and social inclusion.  Alvara is not only participation as a performer but also as a thought leader. She is set to perform her brand-new single, ‘See Us’, written exclusively for the event. The song calls for visibility, respect and authentic representation of persons with disabilities, a message that aligns perfectly with the conference’s goals.

Her presence in Nairobi marks a historic moment for Namibia, as she also steps into the role of ambassador for the Face of Africa initiative.  She will join a panel discussion dealing with ‘youth in the creative economy gaps and opportunities’, which will spotlight the challenges and potential that exist for young creatives with disabilities.

In addition to her musical and advocacy roles, Alvara holds a qualification in community counselling. Her passion for empowerment extends beyond the stage, as she continuously uses her platform to create awareness and offer support to marginalized communities.

Alvara is accompanied by Simalumba Nawa, a disability advocate, writer, and founder of The Blindspot Communication and Consultants. Nawa, known for promoting disability as a leadership asset, joins her in reinforcing Namibia’s voice in shaping inclusive policies and narratives across Africa.

The Inclusive Africa Conference has become a key meeting point for innovators, creatives, policymakers and leaders across the continent to champion accessibility and inclusive growth. This year’s event places a focus on digital inclusion, inclusive design and cultural representation areas where Alvara’s influence continues to grow.
