In a historic and emotionally charged moment, Namibia officially observed its first Genocide Remembrance Day, honoring the lives of more than 100,000 Ovaherero and Nama people who were systematically exterminated by the German colonial regime between 1904 and 1908.

According to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in official address at the commemoration, the declaration of this national holiday marks a turning point in Namibia’s journey toward healing, historical reckoning, and justice.

Regional councilors in Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Omusati regions have expressed concern over the exploitation and abused of members of the San community who reside in their constituencies. 

The councilors further claim the San people are often used to do various jobs without remuneration and at times are paid alcohol or food.  Protasius Neshuku, the regional councilor of Eengodi constituency in Oshikoto region indicated that some members of the San community are cattle herders or domestic servants.

A group of close to 10 young Namibians is adamant they will continue camping outside the Osona military base facility, with the hope that the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) might reconsider its decision to not absorb them for training as recruits.

The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) is still nursing deep political wounds after it was deregistered by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), a move the party says left lasting damage ahead of the 2024 national elections.
Although the ECN has since reinstated NEFF and government compensatws them, the party’s deputy leader and member of parliament, Kalimbo Iipumbu on Monday said the damage to their political trust and momentum cannot be undone.

The Swakopmund municipality and the electricity distributor, Erongo RED have agreed to co-fund residential development project at the coastal town’s Extension 32, Kramersdorf area, The municipality’s spokesperson Linda Mupupa indicated that this agreement marks a major milestone in the provision of much-needed serviced land for housing. She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to urban expansion and sustainable development.

WHEN you talk of women football now, there is always one name one cannot leave out and that is the name Nancy Lebang of V -Power Angels Ladies in the FNB Women Super League (WSL). She was crowned the top scorer of the 2025 Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup Girls Championship   that was held in Windhoek, recently. 

Aged 15, Lebang made history for Namibia by becoming the first player to score seven goals in one match, when she scored them against Comoros in that championship.

Namibia’s two-time Olympian, Phillip Seidler said that he aspires to establish his own academy to develop elite athletes in Erongo region.   Speaking to Confidente this week, the open water sensation popularly known as the ‘human shark’, stated that starting the academy would enable him to plough back into his community.
