Black Africa on the verge of relegation

By Michael Uugwanga
The country’s most decorated top flight football club, Black Africa SC, is close to getting relegated from the Southern Stream First Division down to the Khomas Second Division league, unless they beat Ramblers with a score line of 11-0, this coming weekend.
Even so, the club which is the 2019 premiership champions, would rely on Date Eleven beating Oranjemund FC, in order to remain in the country’s second tier football league.Black Africa SC is currently in 10th position with 11 points from 19 matches, while Oranjemund FC is in the ninth spot with 14 points from also 19 matches. Black Africa was relegated to the Southern Stream First Division two seasons ago, as then defending champions of the premiership.
As things stands now, they are favourite to be relegated again to the Khomas Second Division. The club won the top flight football a record 10 times, followed by current champions African Stars with eight titles.
Black Africa is also among the most successful winners in the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup, with a win of three titles.
The club is known for having been home to many former great footballers, such as Lolo Goraseb, Smithley Engelbrecht Ruben van Wyk, Doc Jossop, Ronny Kanalelo, Bobby Samaria, Arnold Subeb, Ephraim Tjihonge, Tom Theodor, Rusten Mogane, Jerome Louis, Willy Stephanus, Dynamo Fredericks and Rudie Low, among others. This week Confidente caught up with Black Africa’s chairperson Tomas Adams, who strongly believes that his side will escape relegation. Adams and his management have come under criticisms from some of the club’s supporters for the side’s downfall, in the last three seasons.
“Yes, we will definitely make it, no doubt. We have been playing good football but lady luck was not kind to us. The boys promised to die on the field against Rammies (Ramblers),” said Adams. “We believe them. We had a couple of challenges, mostly from within. As long as there is no harmony, we will not make it. It is most unfortunate that we still have the effects of disunity [within our supporters].”
Despite this, Adams is convinced that the current leadership will lead the team back to old glories and return it to top flight football. “I have always been a very positive person and would not want to dwell on negative thoughts at this stage. I have become a very strong person mentally. I have learned not to budge on your believe and conviction. I believe in the mantra that the sun always rises no matter how dark. The Lion will roar again,” Adams maintained.
