Topic: Burnout: When Your Mind Is Tired but Your Body Keeps Moving. There is a kind of exhaustion that sleep cannot fix.

A tiredness that sits deeper than the body.
A fatigue that follows you even after resting. You wake up exhausted, you move through the day emotionally numb.

You smile, work, answer messages, attend meetings, cook, clean and survive…
But inside? You feel disconnected from yourself.

This is not laziness, this is not weakness, this is burnout. and many people are silently living with it every single day. Burnout is more than “being stressed.”

It is a state of emotional, mental and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, pressure and overwhelm. It happens when the body and mind are pushed beyond their limit for too long without enough recovery, support or emotional safety.

Some people burn out at work.
Others burn out in relationships, parenting, caregiving or simply trying to survive life.
And the frightening part? Many people continue functioning while completely burnt out inside.
Let us dissect this topic today.

Burnout often develops slowly. At first, it may look like simple stress or tiredness. But over time, the body starts sounding alarms.

WHAT DO I MEAN BY PROLONGED STRESS?
Prolonged stress happens when the nervous system remains in “survival mode” for too long. The body constantly releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, preparing you to fight, fix, perform or survive.
But the body was never designed to stay in emergency mode forever.
Eventually, the system begins shutting down emotionally, mentally and physically.
Now imagine a person carrying financial pressure, relationship problems, work stress, family expectations, emotional trauma and sleep deprivation all at the same time.
ALL at the same time. Scary right? and because society praises people for “pushing through,” many individuals ignore the warning signs until their health begins collapsing. Take a deep breath. It gets deeper.
One of the biggest problems with burnout is that people normalize suffering. They say: • “I’m just tired.”
• “I’ll rest later.” • “Everyone is stressed.”
Meanwhile the body is screaming for help.

HOW DO YOU SPOT BURNOUT? Burnout is not always dramatic. Sometimes it appears quietly through daily changes in energy, mood and behaviour.
Common signs include:

  1. Constant exhaustion
  1. Emotional numbness
• You stop feeling excited about things you once loved
• Youfeel detached, irritated or emotionally “flat” Even joy begins to feel exhausting
    1. Brain fog and poor concentration • You struggle to focus
 • Forget simple things
 • Feel mentally slow or disconnected •
    2. Physical symptoms
• Headaches
• Body pain
• Poor sleep
• Frequent illness • Changes in appetite
      1. Loss of motivation
• You begin procrastinating more
 • Everything feels heavy
 • You no longer feel inspired or
hopeful •
      2. Increased anxiety or emotional breakdowns • • Small things trigger frustration or tears
• You feel constantly overwhelmed
• Your nervous system feels “on edge” all the time • What causes burnout? • There is no single cause. Usually, it is a buildup of emotional, mental and physical strain. • Some major causes include: • 1. Chronic stress • Too much pressure for too long without recovery.
      3. Lack of boundaries
• Always saying “yes.” • • Always being available.
• Never allowing yourself to rest.
        1. Emotional overload
• Suppressing emotions, carrying trauma or constantly taking care of others while neglecting yourself.
          1. Poor work-life balance
• Living only to survive deadlines, responsibilities and obligations without moments of restoration.
            1. Lack of support
• Feeling alone emotionally, mentally or physically.
              1. Perfectionism
• Feeling like you must always perform, succeed or appear “strong.”
                • And the most painful part?
• Many burnt-out people feel guilty for resting.
• They believe slowing down means failure. • But your body does not see rest as weakness.
• Your nervous system sees rest as survival. • Burnout affects more than energy levels.
• It damages relationships.
• It affects physical health.
• It weakens the immune system.
• It increases anxiety, depression and emotional instability.
                • It slowly disconnects people from themselves.
The truth is simple but uncomfortable:
A person cannot continuously pour from an empty cup. Can burnout heal? Yes!.
                • But healing requires something many people struggle with deeply: Slowing down without guilt.
                • Healing may involve setting healthier boundaries, prioritising rest, managing stress and learning that your worth is not measured by exhaustion. You do not have to suffer endlessly to deserve rest.
                • “Sometimes the healthiest thing a person can do is pause, breathe and finally listen to what their body has been trying to say all along.”
