Newly established boxing stable Golden Boxing Promotions is setting its sights on bigger fights after successfully hosting its first professional boxing bonanza on Saturday, 29 August, at the Yetu Yama Centre in Katutura, Windhoek.
The Castlebet Namibia Golden Boxing Promotions Boxing Bonanza featured eight bouts involving local boxers competing across different weight categories.
The main attraction was the bout between Martin Kambalili and Gabriel Shimweefeleni.
Golden Boxing Promotions was founded by Tobias Naule to create more opportunities for local boxers, particularly those struggling to secure representation with established boxing stables.
Namibia is home to several boxing stables, including AC Promotions, MTC Salute Boxing Academy, MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias and Boxing Fitness Academy, and MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Academy.
Speaking to Confidente this week, Naule said he was pleased with the success of the stable’s inaugural event and was already looking towards staging a bigger international boxing event.
“The fight night, in short, was a success in my point of view because of the fact that it was our very first professional boxing event. We are still looking at a date, probably towards the end of the year. We might try to have foreign boxers in the next one,” Naule said.
He said the event was made possible through the support of Castlebet Namibia and encountered few challenges, with the main setback being a fighter who could not compete after sustaining a last-minute injury.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Dino Ballotti, former world boxing champion Paulus Ambunda, boxer Flame Nangolo and Josef “Smokey” Hilongwa, among others.
Naule also described the event as a milestone for his young promotion.
“I am the youngest promoter in Namibia to host a professional boxing event. Proudly powered by Castlebet Namibia,” he said.
