Tomas Leads the FNB WSL Scoring Chart, with Haaland and Ngonda in Pursuit

Must Read

While it’s still early in the FNB Women Super League (WSL) season, Khomas NamPol FC Ladies striker Penomwaameni Tomas currently leads the scoring charts with 13 goals.

Tomas, known for being media-shy, appears destined for success. Despite her team’s recent struggles, exemplified by their 3-1 defeat to Arrows Ladies at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Centre, she still managed to find the net. This loss dealt a blow to her team’s title hopes.

If Tomas maintains her current form, she could become the third player to finish the season as the WSL top scorer since 2022, provided her challengers don’t surpass her.

In the 2022/2023 season, Fiola “Haaland” Vliete of Beauties FC made history, becoming the first player to score an astonishing 57 goals in a single FNB WSL season—a feat unmatched in both women’s and men’s football in Namibia. Vliete, currently with the Brave Gladiators preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Eswatini, recently scored a hat-trick in her team’s 7-0 victory over Namib Daughters.

Last season’s top scorer, Anna-Marie Shikusho, is currently behind in the scoring race due to work commitments that have caused her to miss several games. Despite this, she recently scored a hat-trick in her team’s 8-1 win against Okahandja FC.

FC Ongos attacking midfielder Memory Ngonda has scored 11 goals, making her the leading scorer for the reigning champions. She also scored five goals against Okahandja FC.

Talented 16-year-old striker Tamar Hangula, playing for the struggling Okahandja FC, has scored five goals, including a notable goal against FC Ongos. Hangula is a regular starter for both her club and the national U-17 team. She is also part of the Brave Gladiators training camp and has been called up to the U-20 side for the WAFCON qualifiers against Uganda in September.

Ngonda, despite playing midfield for both club and country, has openly expressed her ambition to finish as the top scorer. In an interview with Confidente after her five-goal performance against Okahandja FC, she stated, “I also want to translate my goals to the Brave Gladiators. I am also aiming for the top scorer award at the end of the season.”

Other players with five or more goals include Berverly Uueziua of Julinho Athletic (8 goals), Albertina Fillipus and Hilma Kaanyama of African Stars Queens (5 goals each), Hilma Haitamba of Khomas NamPol (5 goals), Leena Namupala Alweendo of Beauties (5 goals), and Muhinatjo Kamutuua Hanavi of UNAM Bokkies (5 goals).
