A high-stakes clash is on the cards in the FNB Women Super League (WSL) as title contenders Mighty Gunners Ladies and FC Ongos Ladies face off this Saturday in a second-round encounter that could prove decisive in the championship race.

Mighty Gunners head into the fixture as reigning champions, having wrestled the title from Ongos last season. Ongos, however, re- main one of the league’s most dominant sides in recent years and will be eager to reclaim top spot.

The match is set to kick off at 15h00 at UNAM Stadium in Windhoek.

Gunners currently lead the standings with 34 points, closely followed by Ongos on 32. Both teams will also be in action on Sunday, with Gunners taking on Julinho Athletic Ladies, while Ongos are scheduled to face Windhoek City.

With the season entering a critical phase, there is little room for error. Any slip-up from either side could open the door for chasing teams to re-enter the title conversation.

Saturday’s fixtures also feature several key matchups, including Windhoek City against Julinho Athletic Ladies, V-Power Ladies versus Arrows Ladies, and a varsity derby between NUST Babes and UNAM Bokkies. Elsewhere, Desert Foxes take on African Stars Queens, while Khomas NamPol face Mighty Angels.

Sunday’s action continues with NUST Babes meeting Arrows Ladies, V-Power Angels facing UNAM Bokkies, Desert Foxes up against Mighty Angels, and Khomas NamPol taking on African Stars Queens. At the lower end of the table, Desert Fox- es remain rooted at the bottom with just one point from 13 matches, while NUST Babes are also battling relegation with seven points from 12 games.

V-Power Angels sit 10th on 11 points, with Mighty Angels in ninth on 13 points, level with Julinho Athletic in eighth place. Arrows Ladies occupy seventh spot with 15 points, while Windhoek City are sixth with 19 points.

African Stars Queens and Khomas NamPol are tied on 21 points, with the latter placed fourth. UNAM Bokkies hold third place on 27 points, keeping them within striking distance of the league leaders.
