For more than a decade, Witrivier Academy has been providing remedial education and academic support to high school learners, helping young Namibians im- prove their performance and prepare for tertiary education.

Founded in 2012 by educator Wilson Hange, also known as Harry, the academy was established after he recognized the need for structured academic support for learners outside the classroom.

What began as a small initiative has grown into a program that offers afternoon and holiday classes in core subjects, including Mathematics, English, Geography, History, Physical Science, Life Science, Accounting, Economics and Business Studies.

“Our mission is to unlock the full potential of the Namibian child through remedial education,” Hange said.

“The academy’s goal is to ensure learners are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in national examinations and beyond,” he added.

The academy currently has around 20 learners enrolled and is staffed by five graduate tutors, many of whom are education graduates gaining practical teaching experience.

To maintain quality, tutors follow structured teaching plans, and learners regularly evaluate their instructors.

The academy also invites experienced national examination markers to coach learners on answering examination papers ahead of final examinations.

Witrivier Academy also places equal emphasis on emotional wellbeing and academic achievement of learners.

Small class sizes, continuous assessments, and close collaboration with parents allow tutors to monitor each learner’s progress while creating an environment where students feel comfortable seeking both academic and personal support.

According to Hange, the academy’s greatest strength lies not in financial gain but in its commitment to learners.

“Before anyone becomes a tutor here, they must have a passion for helping children. We are not interested in money. We are interested in helping a Namibian child. Money will find us on the way,” he said.

Over the years, the program has produced encouraging results, with many former learners progressing to tertiary education and successful careers in fields including teaching, law and medicine. The academy has also celebrated learners who achieved outstanding performances in national examinations after participating in its revision and examination coaching programs.

The founder hopes to expand the academy’s services to tertiary students and plans to introduce intensive “Marathon Classes” during the August school holiday.

The initiative will combine revision sessions with examination techniques taught by experienced markers, further strengthening the academy’s mission of preparing learners not only to pass examinations but to become confident, responsible citizens capable of contributing to Namibia’s future.

“We don’t only prepare learners to pass examinations; we prepare them to be- come responsible citizens,” Hange said. “Our dream is to see every learner realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to Namibia,” he added.
