Acclaimed musician, writer, and film producer Michael Pulse said his new album ’Portraits’ is self- reflective. He said the album takes a look at relationships that he had.
“The album question’s why we keep some relationships even when they hurt us. The album also celebrates relationships as a lesson that I needed to learn to get me to where I am right now,” Pulse said.
The R&B performer said the title of the album refers to a picture of a person. He said each song is a picture of how a person has made him feel and how they have altered in his life.
The album feature talents such as Uatjoo5670, Keynote, Riguard, Ambishez and Alex kakende.
“I wanted to work with mostly coming up artists. Working with Keynote was just the icing on the cake and to have him on two songs was just a blessing,” he said.
According to the screenplay writer for the movie ‘The White Line’ from the album he wants the public to find a song that re- ally moves and talks to them. He hopes every listener feel nostalgic throughout the album when they listen to it.
Pulse said the songs from this album are different from his previous albums “Pulsified” and “Breathe”.
“I moved away from just doing R&B as a genre and rather transfered the feeling and the sound of Rnb into this album but using different genre as op- posed to it being an R&Balbum like the preivous two albums. What makes it even more different is the fact that 100 percent of the album is the marrying of my naitive language Otjiherero and English to really give it a different sound. The change in the sound is the evidence that my growth in how i do my music has evolved and will continue to change.”
“Munavita” (meaning enemy) is a about how people stand in your way to becoming the best version of you.
“Do not know” features Keynote from Maszanga. Pulse said this song is really close to his heart and talks to how people start judging you when you are doing well in life not knowing what you had to do to get to where you are.
The artist said “Keakende” is a celebration of his heritage and where he comes from.
