These auspicious days, designated as “Unity Week,” present a valuable opportunity for all Muslims — including the wise and noble Muslim community in Windhoek and throughout Namibia—to gather and reaffirm their bonds of brotherhood and solidarity.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was appointed to his mission in a society where ethnic, racial, and tribal divides had shaken its foundations. However, the great miracle of the Final Prophet was not limited to transforming beliefs alone; he successfully forged a single nation (Ummah Wahidah) out of diverse tribes and clans—one whose standard was neither race, skin color, nor language, but piety, brotherhood, and human dignity.
“Unity Week” is not merely a ceremonial occasion or a calendar memorial; it serves as a reminder of a perpetual and vital strategy for the Islamic Ummah. This week reminds us that our shared core beliefs—namely Tawhid (Monotheism), the Quran, and love for the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)—are far greater and stronger than any differences in taste or mi- nor interpretations. In today’s world, where empathy is needed more than ever, the message of Unity Week is a renewal of our pledge with the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) to reject division, strengthen solidarity, and move toward a future built on dignity and justice.
Section 2: The Foundations of Unity in Islamic Thought and the Statements of Imam Khomeini (RA) and the Martyred Leader of the Revolution
Unity in Islamic teachings is neither a temporary tactic nor a political expediency, but a fundamental principle and a divine duty. The Holy Quran, the heavenly book of all Muslims worldwide, calls all believers to solidarity with unparalleled clarity: “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.” This explicit divine command demonstrates that the honour, power, and health of the Islamic society depend on the union of hearts and the avoidance of division.
In the contemporary era, prominent scholars and thinkers of the Islamic world have consistently emphasized this authentic principle. Imam Khomeini (RA), the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, understanding the deep need of the Islamic Ummah for solidarity, designated the period between the two narrated dates of the birth of the Great Prophet (PBUH) as “Unity Week.”
He viewed unity as the key to victory and dignity for Muslims, repeatedly stressing that the secret to the triumph and prosperity of Islamic societies lies in brotherhood and synergy, whereas division only paves the way for foreign domination. Continuing along this luminous path, the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei (may Allah be pleased with him), framed Islamic unity not as a mere formality, but as a “strategic necessity” for the Islamic world. He constantly warned that the enemies of the Islamic Ummah attempt to drain the energy and potential of Islamic societies by stirring ethnic and sectarian conflicts to hinder their growth, progress, and independence. From his perspective, true unity does not mean ignoring religious differences, but rather focusing on numerous commonalities, maintaining vigilance against divisive plots, and fostering empathy in defending the great ideals of the Islamic Ummah.

Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands as a clear symbol of how reliance on Islamic teachings, national cohesion, and adherence to the principle of unity can keep a nation proud against the most severe international pressure. Over recent decades, particularly in the current sensitive climate, Iran has stood firm against attacks, unjust sanctions, and constant threats from the United States and the Zionist regime. This steadfastness demonstrates indigenous capabilities and a faith-driven willpower belonging to a nation determined not to bow to bullying in order to preserve its dignity.
The resistance capability of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not merely military or defensive power; it is a model rooted in faith in the divine promise that truth will overcome falsehood. Despite all aggressions and attacks by its enemies, the Islamic Republic of Iran has not only managed to preserve its security and territorial integrity, but has also become a reliable anchor for defending the oppressed of the world— particularly the people of Palestine, as well as Lebanon. This stance has proven that when the Islamic Ummah holds firm to its principles and unites against oppressors, no power can break its resolve.
Section 4: Islamic Unity and International Solidarity: Connecting Muslims Worldwide
The unifying message of Islam transcends geographical, racial, and linguistic borders, uniting all Muslims world- wide—from West Asia to Central and Southern Africa—into one large spiritual family. This fraternal bond is a massive asset for progress, spirituality, and the realization of justice across various societies.
Among these, the Muslim communities in various African nations represent a valuable and influential part of this unified Ummah. Notably, the Muslim minority in Namibia has consistently presented a clear model of Islam’s compassionate teachings through peaceful coexistence, preservation of moral values, and active participation in the social and economic growth of their country. The gathering of Windhoek’s Muslims in Islamic centres and mosques during the blessed days of the Prophet’s birth stands as a testament to the living spirit of brotherhood and deep religious bonds in this land.
International solidarity among independent and freedom-loving nations—from the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its rich history, culture, and inspiring resistance, to Namibia, with a vibrant society committed to justice and freedom— shows that Islamic values such as defending the oppressed, avoiding division, and striving for development and prosperity can serve as common global ground. Strengthening these values not only enhances the authority of independent nations but also contributes significantly to peace, friendship, and mutual understanding on the international stage.

Unity Week is far more than the renewal of a historical commemoration; it is a living and dynamic call to our responsibilities today. In today’s turbulent world, where oppressors employ various methods to sow discord, erode the capacity of societies, and ignite division within the Islamic Ummah, we need to return to the Sunnah of the Great Prophet (PBUH) and adhere to Allah’s straight path more than ever before.
The experience of the Iranian nation’s resistance and its prominent model of standing against aggression and bullying clearly prove that steadfastness on Islamic principles, firm faith, and internal cohesion are the keys to honour and overcoming the most complex challenges. This great lesson belongs to all Muslims around the globe.
Today, the historical duty of us all—including scholars, youth, and members of Islamic societies—is to:
- Maintain our vigilance and not allow divisive hands to build walls of separation between religious brothers.
- Strengthen our shared spiritual and human foundations and embody unity not merely in words, but in social conduct, support for the oppressed of the world, and efforts to build and develop our societies.
- Be a unified voice for the Islamic Ummah in advocating for justice, peace, and human dignity.
