Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has set aside N$624.9 million in capital expenditure (CAPEX) for the 2025/26 financial year as it moves to improve network coverage, strengthen digital infrastructure and connect more underserved communities across Namibia.

The investment was announced during the ICT High-Level Stakeholder Engagement held in Oshakati.

For many Namibians living in remote areas, poor network coverage often means unreliable communication, limited internet access and difficulty accessing online services. MTC says part of the investment will directly address these challenges through the construction of new network towers and expansion of transmission infrastructure.

MTC’s chief brand, marketing, xommunications and sustainability officer, Tim Ekandjo, said the funding will support projects focused on improving network quality and preparing the company for future digital demands.

“This capital allocation is supporting initiatives such as network optimisation and modernisation, information and communication technology (ICT) upgrades, transmission expansion, construction of new network towers, and power infrastructure investments for network sites,” said Ekandjo.

He added that increasing data usage across the country continues to place pressure on existing infrastructure, making upgrades necessary.

“In line with our strategic rollout plan, we will continue constructing new network towers and expanding transmission infrastructure to support increasing data demand and improve nationwide connectivity. This investment is particularly important in extending network coverage to underserved and remote areas, ensuring broader access to reliable telecommunications services for all Namibians,” he added.

MTC also plans to invest in power infrastructure to improve network stability, particularly in areas affected by electricity interruptions.

Part of the budget has further been allocated to new strategic business initiatives linked to the company’s long-term innovation and growth plans.
