Following a seven-year hiatus, the Namibia Gospel Music Awards (NGOMA), one of the country’s premier event honoring gospel singers, choirs, producers, and songwriters is making a return.
The last NGOMA was held in 2018.
Aimed at reviving the local gospel music industry, elevate artists visibility, and celebrate Namibia’s diverse Christian music landscape NGOMA are returning with their 3rd edition.
The nominee announcement will take place on 25 July at Marigold hotel in Windhoek.
According to NGOMA chairperson Shacks Mwandingi the awards were paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic and financial constraints.
“I am excited that they are back and so are the artists. This year’s event is better planned and will feature more artists and a bigger audience. This year’s edition promises a beautiful event and will showcase many talented new and emerging gospel artists. I appreciate the support we had so far received from individuals and companies. The sponsors will be announced at a later stage,” Mwandingi said.
He said by hosting the event they want to recognize and honour Namibian gospel artists.
He said as a Christian, he saw the need to grow and promote the gospel music industry in Namibia.
Mwandingi said the gospel scene in Namibia remain small. He said more government support is needed to help grow and sustain the Gospel music industry.
“The event helps grow the music industry and contributes to the country’s economy. It gives gospel artists recognition and promotes their music locally and internationally. Artists should continue improving the quality of their music to reach bigger audiences,” he added.
This years event will have eight award categories.
The prizes will be announced at a later stage.
All eligible Gospel artists can enter by completing online nomination forms and uploading their music.
