Self-taught fashion designer and tailor, Corry Schultz who operates under the brand name Corry Schultz_The Tailor said his career has given him the platform to make something out of his skills.

He said through his work he is able to live his dream life – make a living, meet different people and build relationships with clients from different cultures.

Corry Schultz_The Tailor said fashion designing gives him a way to express his creativity.

Corry Schultz_The Tailor said over the years he had the opportunity to make clothes for people from different parts of Namibia.

He said working in this industry has helped him become more confident in his abilities and recognise the value of what he can do.

He expressed excitement saying through his work he is able to make clothing according people’s measurements and preferences – something he is passionate about.

Corry Schultz_The Tailor said his interest in the industry started as a hobby for sewing.

“The change from a hobby to a business happened naturally as people discovered my work and started requesting my services. I saw an opportunity to turn something I was passionate about into a business, and I decided to take it seriously. I taught myself through practice and by learning from the work I did. As my skills improved, people started noticing my work, and today they are appreciating what I do,” Corry Schultz_The Tailor said.

He has been sewing for about four years now.

The designer said for the first two years, it was something he did mainly because he enjoyed it, but later his unique work grabbed the publics attention.

“As people started seeing my work and appreciating the quality, they began asking me to make clothes for them. I was glad because people were willing to pay for my work. My business serves as proof that you can start small and grow with what you have,” the creative added.

According to him, his work is different because he enjoys creating clothes that suit people’s preferences and make them feel good about themselves.

His Damara and Nama dresses for females and including shirts, shorts and trousers for men are hot in demand. The tailor urges the public to continue embracing traditional clothing.

“I enjoy making these traditional garments because they carry cultural meaning and are an important part of our identity. I believe what we wear can say a lot about who we are, our culture and our personal style,” he said.

Corry Schultz_The Tailor said designing for him is all about taking an idea and bringing it to life.

He said he would like to see more Namibians supporting local designers and appreciating the time and skill that go into handmade clothing.

“You can start with a piece of fabric and an idea in your mind, and after putting in the work, you end up with something a person can wear and appreciate. I enjoy creating something with my own hands and seeing the final result. I also like working with different fabrics, measurements and styles. Seeing a client happy with something I made makes the time and effort worthwhile,” he said.

Speaking about his future plans Corry Schultz_The Tailor said he wants to keep improving his skills and develop his own style.
