Cecil Koorts Jr has been doing go-karting for the past six years and is today one of the leading go-karters in the country, alongside his peers such as Russell Josephat and the Kaiyamo twins, Mandume and Nande.
Koorts Jr (13) was recently in the United Kingdom (UK) for the Champions of the Future competition, which was held from 15 May to 17 May at the PF International Kart Circuit in Brandon, Lincolnshire.
He finished in position 15 out of the 22 drivers who competed. Koorts Jr was accompanied to the UK by his father, Cecil. Koorts Jr is a Grade 7 learner at Windhoek Afrikaans Private School in Windhoek.
This week, Confidente had a chance to catch up with Koorts Jr upon his return from the UK, as he shared details about the competition, the experience he gained, his idol, and his next competition.
Koorts Jr and South African driver Max Boshoff were the only go-karters from Africa.
“It was a great experience racing there in the UK, because the race was held at the legendary PF International track. I really learned things such as driving more aggressively. For now, I want to move up to single seaters. I look up to Formula One legendary driver Lewis Hamilton (seven- time Formula One champion), because he never gives up and he really motivates other young drivers,” said Koorts Jr.
Koorts Jr, who has won three national titles, will be returning to the UK to compete in another competition in order to continue gaining more experience.
“So far I have won three national titles and I am looking at adding more titles to my name. My next race will be from 21 August to 23 August at Whilton Mill Karting and Outdoor Activities.”
