Super featherweight boxer Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo says very soon he will make history by becoming the first Namibian to defeat an American boxer on United States soil.
Nangolo is currently in Las Vegas, as part of his preparations ahead of his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Super Featherweight title defence in August. His opponent is yet to be confirmed.
The 24-year-old product of AC promotion, remains undefeated from 13 professional fights and is now ranked 25th in the world by WBO. However, his next fight will see him breaking into the WBO top 15, which will be enough for him to challenge for the world title.
Speaking to Confidente recently, the boxer maintains that he is the only fighter currently from the country that is capable of beating an American in the U.S. “I am going to be the first Namibian to fly out all the way from to the U.S. to defeat an American in his own backyard. I am have been training with them and I know what it will take to beat them. I am used to being with them in the gym here. I therefore do not see anybody from the U.S. that will give me problems inside the ring,” said Nangolo.
Nangolo added that he is just as good as any other boxers in the world and that the most important thing in boxing is the amount of work one puts in.
“I stand a big chance of beating anybody. It is all about the work that you put inside the gym and the time you spent waiting for the big moment. I am waiting for my biggest career and that is the world title,” he added.
“I was not inspired by any Namibian boxer. I did not really have any inspiration but just fell in love with boxing through my uncle (Imms Moses). He really pushed me to the limit. Being here is really improving my boxing because boxing is in America.”
