Namibian musician Joseph Kamati, better known as Weni.292, says fans can expect a fresh sound as he steps away from the style that first made him popular.
The singer, who has been winning over music lovers since 2019, said he wanted to challenge himself by exploring genres he has always enjoyed.
“I got tired of being stuck in the same box of sounds. As an independent artist, I can do what I want without fearing the public’s response.”
Weni.292’s love for music began in Grade 2, inspired by his uncles, who were members of the band B-VAT.
He is currently working on a joint project with TopBoy Rose and experimenting with jazz influences alongside Mshizo and DJ Bobo. He said the upcoming music will feature stronger melodies and vocals.
The artist said music has given him purpose and a platform to tell his story.
“My music has the potential to change lives and be a comforting hug for others. Through my music, I am telling my story,” he said.
Beyond music, Weni.292 also owns the 292 clothing brand, which he started during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
“I was not in a good place mentally, but building the brand kept me productive and creative. It reminds me that dark days eventually lead to light.”
He added that the clothing brand has also helped grow his music career by introducing new audiences to his work through pop up events, including in Johannesburg, where he connected with other artists.
Weni.292 encouraged young people to pursue what they truly love instead of living to meet society’s expectations.
He also called on local promoters to invest more in Namibian artists.
“Too much of the budget goes to international acts while local artists receive very little. If more was invested in local talent, artists would be able to invest even more in their craft.”
