Renowned football agent Collin April says his agency, Collin Players Management, is currently working behind the scenes to secure a number of overseas opportunities for local players, although he has chosen not to reveal names at this stage.
April has built a reputation for helping several Namibian players break into professional football, particularly in South Africa. Among those who have benefited from his network are Riaan Hanamub, Denzil Haoseb, Theophilus Tsowaseb, Quinton Jacobs, George Hummel, and Congo Hindjou, among others who have gone on to ply their trade across the border.
Speaking to Confidente this week, April said his focus is not limited to Namibia, as his agency also works with players from across the southern African region.
“At the moment we are busy se- curing deals for players under our management. We are looking at closing seven deals for now. Remember we are not only working with Namibian players but also with players from the Southern African Development Community. At this stage I cannot mention the names of the players or the clubs until everything is finalised,” April said.
He added that his long-standing relationship with South African clubs continues to open doors, particularly his ties with Jomo Cosmos, which is owned by football legend Jomo Sono. Sono was recently in Namibia to watch Mariental Sport Club compete in the Southern Stream First Division.
April said the visit has already started to bear fruit, with two players from Mariental Sport Club now set to travel for medical assessments and possible contracts with Jomo Cosmos.
“Jomo and I have built a strong relationship over the years based on mutual respect and trust. When I told him about certain players at Mariental Sport Club, he decid- ed to come and see for himself. I can say his visit was worthwhile, as two players have now secured an opportunity to go for medical tests and possibly sign with Jomo Cosmos,” he added.
Beyond player transfers, April revealed that he is also preparing to launch a football academy in his hometown of Walvis Bay, aimed at developing young talent from an early age.
“We are on the verge of starting the Collin April Football Academy. We have already secured partner- ships with the Pitso Mosimane Academy, as well as institutions in Brune, Norway, and two clubs in Germany. The official launch is planned for the end of August in Walvis Bay. The focus will be on youth development, starting from under nine level and upwards”.
